This year, Las Fallas, Valencia’s most international festival, is to be held from 15 to 19 March, with the main days falling on the weekend. Over five intense days the city will become a veritable feast for the senses. It will be especially stunning to look at, with the rich colours of the traditional costumes made from natural silk, over 700 Fallas — pieces of artwork generally erected at intersections between the city’s streets — and the white, pink and red carnations that cover the mantle of Our Lady of the Forsaken on the days of the flower offerings. Visitors can also enjoy the smells and sounds of the festival, with the abundance of flowers and mascletàs, pyrotechnics displays to be held in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento at 2 pm from 1 to 19 March — something that fills Valencians with joy when they begin to note the characteristic smell of gunpowder. There will also be a firework display every night of the festival in Paseo de la Alameda, and finally the Nit de la Cremà, when all of the Fallas monuments go up in flames. The sense of touch is awoken too, as people come together to enjoy these special pyrotechnics displays. As for the taste buds, you can enjoy the hot chocolate and buñuelos (small fried balls of dough) that are typically eaten during these days full of joy, art, excitement, music, colour and many more surprises that you will only discover if you come to Valencia from 15 to 19 March.
