Designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava and built between 1986 and 1989, the structure is made of cement beams, with steel and reinforced concrete. It is open to traffic and stands at one end of the Turia Gardens, it is 144 metres long, 4.9 metres high and 7.2 metres wide. There is a plan to put a lake beneath the bridge at a future date.
